Dermal Filler treatments used in Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic provide instant results as the product is placed into the skin using tiny anti wrinkle injections.

Restylane and Juvederm  are examples of Hyaluronic Acid fillers. Hyaluronic Acid is a natural substance, which is found in the skin. HA wrinkle fillers are non-animal, stabilised, bio-degradable forms of this molecule. In the skin, collagen and hyaluronic acid work together to provide youthful resilience, texture and shape.

Most patients find the treatment very tolerable and virtually painless. However, the application of Emla topical anaesthetic cream is helpful if you are worried about the treatment.

A treatment session typically takes about 30 minutes.

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers on average have a duration of 8 to 12 months but can last up to 18 months in some people.

What are Dermal fillers and how do they work?

Dermal Fillers are the ideal treatment for instantly enhancing your looks in a completely natural way. They work from inside by adding volume and gently smoothing out lines, folds and wrinkles. They help to restore our skin to its former youthful appearance.

There are a large number of Dermal Wrinkle Fillers on the market, which differ in content, molecular structure and duration. For example, Restylane and Juvederm Ultra are made from hyaluronic acid gel, a large molecule that provides part of the structural support of the skin.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, which is found in all life and its most important function is to bear and bind water. Fillers are non-animal, stabilised, bio-degradable forms of this molecule. In the skin, collagen and hyaluronic acid work together to provide youthful resilience, texture and shape.

What can dermal fillers treat?

Wrinkle Fillers come in different thicknesses, making it a very versatile product to treat very fine lines to deep wrinkles and folds.

These products are very effective in both men and women in helping to instantly soften:

  • lines around the lips (smoker’s lines),
  • the lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial lines)
  • smile lines on the cheeks
  • crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles.

They have been widely used to increase the size and volume of lips.

Thicker fillers can also be used to:

  • add volume to sunken cheeks and weak chins
  • reshape the tip of the nose
  • filling out deeper acne or other scars
  • help reduce the appearance of veins and tendons in aged hands with thin skin.

Different combinations of types of fillers are used in order to achieve the best results.

Who carries out the treatment?

In the Canterbury Skin & Laser Clinic, the treatment is carried out only by doctors and nurses with dermatology training and expertise. You will need an initial consultation to assess your suitability for treatment. A treatment session typically takes about 30 minutes.

Are there any side effects?

Immediately after the treatment, some injection-related reactions may occur: e.g. redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness at the injection site. These typically settle down within a day or so, the lips taking up to a week to settle fully. Other types of reactions are rare.

Does Dermal Filler injections hurt?

The needles used for the treatment are very fine and most people describe the treatment akin to a few small sharp scratches. However, if you are concerned about this, we can prescribe some topical anaesthetic cream to apply on the skin before the treatment. This will  help to numb the area so the treatment would almost be pain-free.

How long does it last?

Hyaluronic acid fillers on average have a duration of 8 to 12 months but can last up to 18 months in some people.

What other treatments are there for wrinkles?

Skin rejuvenation using the latest fractional resurfacing laser, Nlite laser or Dermal Roller techniques are available to help remove fine lines, wrinkles and scars. Chemical peels can be carried out using a variety of agents, including fruit acids and trichloracetic acid (TCA). Botox® is widely used to help soften dynamic wrinkles affecting the upper face especially, including forehead, frown and crow’s feet. It is often combined with other treatments to soften the face, such as the dermal fillers.
