Is Botox® a popular procedure here in Kent?
We are often asked by clients whether Botox treatment is a popular procedure? They may guess that this could be so in big cities like London, but they wonder whether it would be a popular treatment here in rural Kent!
I’m sure you won’t be surprised if we said that Botox is consistently one of the most popular non surgical anti-ageing procedures for the face over the last 15 years. Recent statistics released by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), revealed that there were 1.49 million wrinkle relaxing procedures performed in 2012, an increase of 24.4%!! Soft tissue fillers (such as Restylane, Juvederm etc) reported a 10.4% increase but the largest jump was in Photo-rejuvenation, using a broad band light to target sun damage, broken veins and fine lines, an increase of 76.5%!
In the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic, Botulinum toxin injections are the most popular anti-ageing treatment, so yes, even here in rural Kent, this is still a very popular choice. However, we do not agree that Botox is ever indicated in teenagers. Yet 1 in 6 clinics surveyed in London said they would be happy to consider treating teenagers aged between 16 -17 years old with anti ageing injections!
The reason why Botulinum injections are so popular is that the procedure is relatively quick, convenient and in trained hands, is a very safe treatment. The procedure only takes 15 minutes or so and leaves little evidence, unlike Dermal Fillers which are far more likely to cause bruising. For dynamic wrinkles, Botulinum injections are extremely effective in softening lines and wrinkles and literally melt away the angry frown look and freshen up the face.
