PDO Thread Lift Treatment for Face and Neck (Thread Lift)

Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic is the first clinic in Kent to introduce Fine Thread Lifting (FTL) to this area.

What is FTL – Fine Thread Lifting?

Thread_Filler_pdf_pdfFTL is a revolutionary technique making use of PDO biodegradable threads to combine the benefits of the permanent thread lift technique with that of superficial contour threads to minimise the side effects of older techniques.

Which areas can be treated with FTL?

As well as using specifically designed fine contour threads for reducing puffiness and fine lines around the eyes, FTL can be used on:

  • The nasolabial folds
  • Marionette lines
  • Jowls
  • Neck

It can also be used to produce an excellent brow lift.

How is Fine Thread Lifting performed?

Performed under local anaesthetic, the procedure takes between 45 minutes for one area to 90 minutes for the full face.

To minimise the risk of bruising, the threads are positioned by using a blunt cannula. For a full-face procedure, you can expect some discomfort and swelling; we advise you to take 5 days away from social engagements.

Whilst you will be able to drive yourself home, it’s preferable to have someone to drive you instead. If you’re having a local procedure, the downtime is minimal.

What are the risks?

A full medical history will be taken at the time of assessment, as some patients should not have this treatment:

  • Serious heart problems
  • Auto-immune conditions
  • Kidney disorders
  • Bleeding disorders

When will I see results?

You will see an improvement immediately in the treated areas. This will improve even further over the next 3-4 months as new collagen settles between the threads, contributing to increased lifting and tightening of the skin.

How long does the treatment last?

Studies have shown that the results from FTL last between 2 and 3 years, however this depends on the quality of the skin, the number of threads used, the degree of sagging and the patient’s age at the time of treatment.

Having occasional additional thread treatments will help you to maintain good results.

For local areas such as the eyes or lips, prices start at £500. For treatment of the neck prices range from £950 – £1300, and up to £2600 for a full 5 cog facelift. Top up treatments generally cost less depending on the type and number of threads used.

Your appointments are never rushed. We will take time to explain the procedures to you, make a personalised assessment of your needs and agree a treatment plan to suit you. Follow up reviews are included if you have any concerns or worries about the treatment. The assessment consultation is usually 30 mins and is £100.

Although the technique was first described in 1907, thread contouring using permanent threads has been widely available for over 10 years. Most threads used up to this point have been permanent, resulting in visible asymmetry and complications. Old thread treatments failed to gain popularity due to their invasive and uncomfortable nature.

The PDO (polydioxanone) thread lifting technique we use is a relatively new method of body, neck and face contouring. 2011 saw it gain FDA approval for indications of collagen regeneration and rejuvenation, as well as for lipolysis.

Doctors have been using PDO threads for closing wounds around the world for over 15 years. PDO threads are safer and cause significantly less discomfort and down time due to having a less invasive insertion technique.

PDO threads are completely biodegradable over a 6-8 month period, leaving only new bands of collagen to tighten, lift and rejuvenate the skin. You will be able to see the full effects after 3-4 months.

Innovative new cog and screw threads provide a far superior anchoring and lifting of sagging connective tissue and sub-dermal fat tissue.

To produce a greater inflammatory effect to stimulate collagen production, threads are doubled or tripled. A minimal number of insertion points are used to access the whole face and neck, giving fantastic visual improvement without the risks of traditional cosmetic surgery.

PDO Fine Thread Rejuvenation Therapy – Contour Threads

Threads cross section

Fine thread therapy combines traditional thread lift principles of inflammatory response and new collagen formation of western medicine with principles of needle rotation and mechano-transduction of acupuncture.

The fine threads used are made of PDO (polydioxanone), and are a lot finer than cog threads at 0.05-0.4mm in diameter.

The threads are placed in the subcutaneous layer, activating a natural wound healing effect and resulting in:

  • Increased collagen formation
  • Tissue adhesion
  • Increased anchoring around the PDO threads
  • Increase in fat breakdown
  • Descrease in cellulite
  • Tighter, lifted skin
  • Reduced pore size
  • Reduction of fat in the double chin and neck areas

This popular treatment is used to address:

  • Loose, saggy skin around the neck
  • Crow’s feet lines
  • Frown lines

It produces an excellent eyebrow lift, along with lifting and tightening the jawline.

 5 Cog Facelift

This revolutionary technique combines strong, anchoring threads for lifting the skin, along with fine superficial contouring threads for surface rejuvenation.

We strategically place five long cog threads in the deep layers of the skin of the cheek in order to lift:

  • The jowls
  • Marionette lines
  • Nasolabial folds

We can also use cog threads to lift the neck, eyebrows and forehead. The end result is excellently efficient lifting and tightening of the skin, redefining facial contours and inducing collagen production.

The threads will completely biodegrade between 6-8 months, with the effects lasting between 2-3 years.

At the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic, you’ll have a thorough consultation, assessing your suitability to the procedure and a detailed explanation of what to expect from the procedure.

All thread lift treatments are carried out by experienced dermatological surgeons.
