electrolysis hair removal canterbury

The majority of your body is covered in hair, some of it fine and unnoticeable, and some of it coarser and darker. Factors such as genetics, hormones, and certain medication affect the thickness and prominence of your body hair; and a large amount of unwanted body hair can have a big impact on your confidence. Whether you’re a man who feels ashamed of his hairy back, or a woman who is tired of constantly having to shave her legs and bikini area, there is a permanent solution to your body hair problem: electrolysis.

Electrolysis effectively removes fair hair and red hairs, as well as dark hairs. For large areas of concern, where the hairs are dark, we also offer laser hair removal which gives quick and long lasting results. We advise that laser hair removal is considered in the first instance, and if it is not suitable for you then electrolysis may be performed.

HOW DOES ELECROLYSIS WORK?

Electrolysis removes individual hairs at the follicle via an electric current that is applied with a fine, needle-shade electrode or metal probe. The electric current destroys the hair follicle at the root, preventing it from ever growing back in the future.

Hair grows in cycles, so it is impossible to remove all of the hair in one area of the body in one session. Each treatment takes between 15 and 90 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated and several treatments are usually needed for long term clearance.

Everyone can benefit from electrolysis hair removal, regardless of skin type. Before treatment commences you will have a consultation with one of our experienced therapists who will determine your suitability for treatment, and work out how many sessions you are likely to require for best results. Pregnancy is not normally a contraindication to electrolysis, but the breasts and abdominal areas should be avoided because the skin is already stretched and under duress; but electrolysis poses no threat to an unborn child.

Electrolysis can be uncomfortable, specially in sensitive areas but most people find it tolerable. The sensation varies according to the area of the body being treated, as well as the pain threshold of the person being treated. After the treatment you may find that there is some localised redness and swelling in the treated area, which should disappear after a couple of days. If you have any ingrown or distorted hairs they may develop tiny pinprick scabs, which will naturally fall away within a week.
