HOW DOES FRACTIONAL LASER SKIN RESURFACING WORK?
Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing only treats small zones within a target area, allowing a quicker recovery. At the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic, we offer the Pixel Er:YAG (iPixel) module from Alma Lasers. This is a 2940nm wavelength and a fully ablative laser, which is delivered to the skin in tiny micro beams, in combination with contact cooling of the skin’s surface. The iPixel can help to penetrate the skin at a deeper level, allowing it to improve overall skin tone, elasticiy and texture. Furthermore, it can help to reduce superficial pigmentation and pore size.
For several hours after treatment the skin will feel tight and have the appearance of a “sunburned” look. The skin will continue to look “pinkish” for 2 – 10 days and any swelling, which should be minimal, usually disappears after 1 – 4 days. As the skin heals itself, you will find mild to moderate skin flaking, which may last for up to 2 weeks.
A course of 3 – 6 sessions at 4-6 week intervals is usually recommended, but everyone’s skin is different and we will provide tailored advice to you during your consultation and patch test. Optimal improvement after fractional treatment is usually visible in about 2 – 3 months as collagen remodelling and skin tightening continues. However, you can see significant differences even after the first session in some cases.
